Orvietano

Orvietano:
ORVIETO DISTRICT
Municipalities: Orvieto, Allerona, Baschi, Castel Viscardo, Frabro, Ficulle, Montecchio, Monte Gabbione, Monteleone, Parrano and San Venanzo
Territory: The area, now served by the most modern communication routes that cut right across it, extends over a hinterland where the distinctive landscape of volcanic origin, with sheer basaltic and tufa formations, turns into gentle hills and alluvial plains, with clay ravines at the first Apennine outposts.
Worthy of note: the city of Orvieto, in symbiosis with the tufa spur on which it was built, is an exceptional example of how human effort can integrate with nature. Visiting this city is a journey through history, for the traces of almost three thousand years can be found, stratified and concentrated, in a predefined physical space. Lake Corbara, an artificial basin created after the construction of a water-power plant, located between Orvieto and Todi. The lake and its hinterland are a part of the Tiber River Park [Parco fluviale del Tevere].
